She’s the seamstress, I’m the flapper — On The Thousands today, Karlee shows you how to semaphore, namely, how to make your own set of flags and how to wave them in the interests of communication. I helped her by flailing my arms about in some configuration.
Previously for The Thousands: I wrote about Rob McHaffie’s preview show at Schoolhouse Studios, a tiny review of This Ain’t California for this year’s MIFF Guide for the Disorganised, and assisted Pork Chop in bouncing some bubs.

In an attempt to foster the appearance of an adult woman who isn’t scraping at the poverty line and is dealing well with the tribulations of her personal life, I’ve been propagating and growing succulents for a few years. Do you know who can effortlessly maintain a small, lush indoor steppe? Someone who has her shit together.
My first article for Three Thousand, How To Steal And Propagate Succulents is in this week’s newsletter and syndicated to a Thousands near you. It’s the feature article in both Adelaide and Brisbane, coincidentally where most of my favourite people are from.

Peace/maker — Studio Round and Natasha Theoharous.
Thanks to everyone who came to the Terrible Twos exhibition on Thursday. My piece with Studio Round is now up for online auction. Let your eyeballs and your wallet enjoy our arts, with all proceeds going to AIME, who partner volunteer university students in a one-on-one mentoring relationship with Indigenous high school students.

“Scene: Our editorial meeting, Monday, 10am.”

When I moved to Melbourne in 2006, I was a doe-eyed naïf with a head full of dreams, zero friends, and just as many clues as to how to be a young person. I subscribed to ThreeThousand that April and have been bluffing cred ever since.
Expect “hot scoops”, DIY tutorials, and OUTS from me in the future because I now write for these guys!

I’m part of an exhibition organised by Desktop magazine and The Design Kids opening at No Vacancy this Thursday.
The premise: Twenty young designers are paired up with twenty Melbourne design studios. Each pair is given an A1-sized piece of wood, cut in half diagonally. The studios chose a compound word and the designer and studio respond to their part of the word on their half of the wood. The pieces are then joined together, exhibited, and put up for silent auction, with the proceeds going to a charity the studios nominate.
I was paired with Studio Round and the word we chose was “peacemaker”, with the proceeds going to AIME. The auction goes online this weekend and continues for five days. Photos and links to our piece will follow then!

I’m interning for The Jacky Winter Group as of this week!
In between dogsitting, hitting the post office and coffee runs, I’ll be producing this year’s Field Guide. Exciting stuff!
